Dashboard before being worked on by Hot Rod Express

Dash

The dash had been taken apart previous to the car arriving at our shop, so we had to determine where all the trim and controls went.

Much of the dash trim was also sent for new chrome, including the speaker grille and ashtray covers, to add a little extra shine.

CD player in glove box

A glove box was made, and a cd player installed inside with a remote IR hidden in the speaker grille.

Rotted original top in sad shape

Folding top

Next in the restoration process is the folding top. The original top was in sad shape.

The wood header bow was rotted away and had to be replaced, as did all the other wood in the top.

Stripped down, repaired, and painted frame, along with new wooden components

The frame was stripped down, any damage repaired, and painted.

New wooden components were made and installed.

Then the folding frame could be mounted in the car.

The next step is fitting a custom cloth top.

Bow height being determined, pads and top being fitted

Once the top has been repaired and all the wooden components replaced, the bow height can be determined and we can begin fitting the pads and then the top.

Rear pads and forward strap being fitted

First are the rear pads and a support strap forward to the front bow to maintain the proper height.
